                          CHAPTER E-6.3 REG 16
                       The Electrical Inspection Act, 1993
Title
    1   These regulations may be cited as The Electrical Code Regulations.
Interpretation
    2   In these regulations:
         “Act” means The Electrical Inspection Act, 1993;
         “Canadian Electrical Code” means the Canadian Electrical Code,
         Part I (twenty-sixth edition), being Canadian Standards Association
         standard C22.1:24;
         “CSA standard” means the standard adopted by subsection 5(1);
         “Oil and Gas Code” means the Code for Electrical Installations at Oil and Gas
         Facilities, Fifth Edition, 2024, as published by the Technical Safety Authority
         of Saskatchewan.

Canadian Electrical Code adopted
    3 The Canadian Electrical Code is prescribed for the purposes of subsection 5(1)
    of the Act.
                                                 5 Feb 2021 SR 4/2021 s4.


Oil and Gas Code adopted
    4(1) For the purposes of governing the work of electrical installation for oil and
    gas fields, the Oil and Gas Code is adopted.
    (2) In addition to complying with the Canadian Electrical Code, all work of electrical
    installation for oil and gas fields must comply with the Oil and Gas Code.

CSA standard adopted
    5(1) Subject to the Act and these regulations, the Canadian Standards Association
    standard CAN/CSA-M421:23 Use of electricity in mines is adopted.
    (2) Subject to subsection (3), the CSA standard governs the workmanship and all
    other matters pertaining to electrical equipment and the installation of electrical
    equipment that operates or is intended to operate in mines and quarries.

    (3) For the purposes of rule 36-006 of the CSA standard, the chief inspector may
    accept, in whole or in part, an alternative means of cable identification and warning
    practices that, in the opinion of the chief inspector, meets the intent or objective of
    rule 36-006 of the CSA standard.
    (4) Compliance with the CSA standard is required as though the provisions of that
    standard had been made pursuant to the Act.

    6    The Canadian Electrical Code (Adoption) Regulations, 2012 are repealed.

Coming into force
    9 These regulations come into force on the day on which they are filed with the
    Registrar of Regulations.
